Digestate use

Description

Digestate is an agricultural amendment which results from anaerobic digestion and improves the physical and chemical properties of the soil. It can replace certain fertilizers, increasing yields with the other resources used being equal. Digestate helps soil carbon enrichment (more stable that the enrichment resulting from slurry) and restores moisture due to its high water content. Digestate should be injected below the surface to avoid loss through the volatilisation of nitrogen which is mainly in ammonia form. It is important to provide the right amount of amendment to avoid any negative effects.
