Climate changes, agriculture reacts

Life ADA: positive growth to climate change

Learn. Adapt. Resist.

With Life ADA, our shared goal is to provide practical support to the agricultural sector and strengthen farmers’ skills to face and endure climate change.

LIFE ADA
to learn.

Understanding climate change scenarios and managing risks to gain more expertise on the field.

LIFE ADA
to adapt.

Defining efficient adaptation strategies using proper support tools.

LIFE ADA
to resist.

Increasing endurance in the sector and strengthen the ability to reduce climate risks consequences in the long term.

242.000 potential farmers
1.2 million workers involved

The Challenge

Italy is one of Europe most vulnerable areas to climate change and is among EU countries that suffers most from economic loss due to extreme weather conditions.

Climate change has a direct effect on productivity and quality, jeopardising profitability of farmers, especially small and medium-sized ones, as well as their ability to survive.

From Europe to local farms: increased endurance to climate change

In line with EU strategy on adaptation to climate change (COM 2013/216), whose main goal is to contribute to making Europe more resilient to climate change, our challenge is to outline specific measures for the agricultural sector to offset its impact even at a local level. This requires:

ADA project will be implemented with the contribution of LIFE, a European Union financial instrument.

Our
Commitment

Thanks to our collaboration with public and private Partners from various sectors (insurance, public administration, scientific institutions and producers’ organisations), we are committed to increasing the ability of farmers to adapt via:

By transferring knowledge on climate scenarios together with risks management and adaptive measures to improve farmers’ skills in addressing current and future climate risks.

By building proper tools to support the decision-making process in outlining efficient adaptation strategies at farm and supply-chain level.

By defining a coherent political strategy at regional level to support adaptive planning of farmers.

By promoting an innovative approach for insurers to strengthen the ability to reduce risks and keeping insurability of farmers in the long term, despite the increase in catastrophic and systemic risks.
